Democratic Leadership,Delivering for Families

Our Next Mayor

I'm Stevevonna Evans

I believe leaders have the responsibility to the people of our city to build a strong and safe community, where our future is bright and our families thrive.

My understanding of public service started long before I ever thought about running for office. My grandmother, Marlene Brown, spent 17 years as Player Agent for Adelanto Little League. I grew up watching her serve this community, and I worked alongside her doing everything from rosters and scorekeeping to preparing fields and working the snack bar. She taught me that service isn’t about a title. It’s about showing up, doing the work, and leaving your community better than you found it.

"But making history was never enough for me.
The point of getting a seat at the table is what you do once you get there."

Purpose From Pain

In 2013, I lost my daughter, Haven, to SIDS. There are moments in life that divide everything into before and after. Losing Haven was mine.

I could never have imagined that the deepest pain of my life would eventually lead me toward a greater calling to serve other people.

But after her death, I was called into activism. What began as grief became advocacy. Advocacy became service. And service eventually led me into politics.

Not because I had spent my life dreaming of elected office. I hadn’t. I had no idea what I was getting into.

I simply knew there were people who needed someone willing to speak up, organize, ask questions, and fight for change. And I believed God was telling me to do it.

Like so many people who call Adelanto home, I saw both what our city was and what it could become.

I saw families building lives here. Children growing up here. People buying their first homes. Entrepreneurs taking chances. Residents who loved their community even when they were frustrated with their government. And I saw people who didn't always believe their voices mattered. That mattered to me. Government should never feel like something that happens to people. It should work with them.

Why Adelanto

In 2018, I ran for Adelanto City Council. And I won.

I became the first African American woman elected to the Adelanto City Council and the first Black woman elected to a city council in the High Desert. But making history was never enough for me. The point of getting a seat at the table is what you do once you get there. Since then, my work has centered on listening to residents, asking difficult questions, building partnerships, challenging systems when necessary, and working toward solutions. Leadership means showing up, doing the work, learning, and coming back tomorrow prepared to do more.

From Activism to City Hall

SERVICE DIDN'T START WITH AN ELECTION
And it doesn't end at City Hall.

My commitment to service extends far beyond my role as a Councilwoman. As a nonprofit founder, community advocate, business owner, and volunteer, I have worked with families and organizations throughout our community.

Government cannot do everything. Neither can nonprofits. Neither can businesses. Neither can community organizations. But when we bring those sectors together around a shared problem, we can accomplish things none of us could accomplish alone.

Government as a connector.

FAMILY

BEFORE ANY TITLE I'M MOM
Public service is part of my life. It is not my entire life. I'm a mother raising a family while navigating the same things so many families navigate every day: work, school, sports, bills, schedules, unexpected problems, big dreams, and the constant effort to somehow get everybody where they're supposed to be on time. My children are a constant reminder that the decisions we make today are creating the community their generation will inherit tomorrow. I don't want our children growing up believing opportunity exists everywhere except home. I want them to be able to imagine building their lives here.

HOW I LEAD

PEOPLE OVER POLITICS Leadership isn't about having all the answers. Sometimes leadership means asking the question nobody else wants to ask. Sometimes it means bringing people with completely different perspectives into the same room. Sometimes it means standing firm. Sometimes it means admitting you got something wrong. And sometimes it means listening long enough to realize someone else has a better idea. Every person deserves dignity. Every conversation deserves civility. Every young adult deserves opportunity. Every taxpayer deserves a City that fights for every dollar before asking them for one more.

WHY MAYOR

I've spent years learning this City from more than one side of the dais, as a resident, advocate, organizer, nonprofit leader, business owner, and Councilwoman.
Growth is coming. Investment is coming. New industries are looking at the High Desert. New families will call Adelanto home. The decisions we make now will determine what kind of city we become. I don't want Adelanto simply reacting to that future. I want us prepared to shape it. I'm not running because the work is finished.

I'm running because I'm ready to lead the next chapter of it.

THE VISION

I believe in an Adelanto where families thrive, businesses grow, neighborhoods are valued, young people see pathways to success, development creates opportunity for the people who already live here, government communicates clearly and listens genuinely, disagreements don't become disrespect, and residents can see results, not simply hear promises.

There is a place for me in this future.

Running to Fight for People
Not for Corporate Profits

Change Rarely starts with Government building. It Starts with People.

People are Adelanto’s greatest asset, but it feels like we’re under attack every day. ICE continues to abduct our neighbors, greedy AI companies want to build data centers in our city, and the cost of living keeps going up. Our current Republican leadership is selling us out and ripping us off. I’m running to represent people, not huge corporations. It’s time to fight back. Join me.

Stevevonna's Track Record
of Delivering For Adelanto

Adelanto Water Justice Coalition

As City Councilwoman, I created the Adelanto Water Justice Coalition. This brought together residents, experts, advocates, and organizations together to ensure Adelanto has safe and clean water for everyone.

Established Responsible Cannabis Oversight

I brought together residents & stakeholders to strengthen the oversight of our local cannabis industry. This gives both residents and businesses a voice as we continue to develop the best policies to help the industry grow, but not at our community's expense.

Protected Renters & Removed Discriminatory City Programs

When corporations and landlords abused existing, out-of-date ordinances to remove families from their homes, I challenged and successfully repealed these programs to ensure Adelanto families can stay in their homes.

Public Safety & Accountability

Advocated for policies and programs to improve interactions and maintain safety between law enforcement and residents. Including, establishing more transparency and accountability for those interactions.
