First African American woman elected to the Adelanto City Council and first Black woman elected to a city council in the High Desert. Representation matters, but making history is only meaningful if you use the seat to do the work.
From resident concerns to community-driven solutions. Built the Adelanto Water Justice Coalition to bring residents, experts, researchers, students, advocates and community organizations together around water quality and system concerns.
Challenged Adelanto’s Crime Free Rental Housing ordinance and worked to remove a policy that could create unnecessary barriers for renters.
Helped move Adelanto toward declaring racism a public health crisis and toward community-centered action on racism, diversity and inclusion.
Advocated for policies designed to improve interactions between law enforcement and residents, including greater accountability and transparency.
Worked collaboratively with residents and stakeholders to strengthen oversight of Adelanto’s cannabis industry.
Our roads still need work. Our water system still requires investment. Residents still want more businesses, restaurants, retail, recreation and opportunities. Young adults still need stronger career pathways. Neighborhoods still need investment. Government still has work to do to earn and maintain public trust.
Government should have a scoreboard. Residents should be able to see what we promised, what we’re working on, what we’ve completed, what it cost, what outside funding we secured, and what measurable difference it made.
ADELANTO IS GOING TO GROW. LET'S MAKE SURE OUR PEOPLE GROW WITH IT.
There is a place for me in this future.
